There’s conflicting information out there regarding coronavirus and COVID-19.
At this time, there’s no recommendation from the CDC to discontinue contact lens wear. However, the CDC recommends that we avoid touching our eyes, nose, and mouth. Additionally, the American Academy of Ophthalmology says, “consider wearing glasses more often especially if you tend to touch your eyes a lot when your contacts are in.”
If you must wear your contact lenses during the Coronavirus outbreak, here are 3 things we advise to keep your eyes safe and healthy during this time — and, really, always:
If you wear daily disposable contacts, discard them daily
If you use 2-week or monthly disposable lenses, continue to follow the manufacturer’s cleaning and disinfection regimen
If you’d like a little more disinfection, you can change to a hydrogen peroxide solution system such as Clear Care and follow its package instructions.
As expected, always wash your hands before placing and removing your contacts from your eyes.
If you fall sick, stop wearing your contacts. Wear your glasses instead. This will allow time for you and your eyes to heal and recover.
